About the role

Nurse Team Leader – Lung Cancer Screening (Devon)

Remote with occasional travel
36 hours per week (flexible over 4–5 days)

Help save lives through early diagnosis. Our Lung Cancer Screening Service (LCSS) works with communities across the UK to detect lung cancer at an earlier, more treatable stage. We are now seeking an experienced respiratory nurse to lead and support our growing nursing team.


The Role

As Nurse Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Lung Cancer Screening Service, ensuring a high-quality, seamless and patient-centred experience.

Working closely with the Clinical Lead, Head of Nursing and commissioners, you will play a key role in developing the nursing team and ensuring the service consistently meets national standards.

You will bring strong clinical expertise, lead nurse-led clinics, contribute to weekly screening review meetings, and support the management of nodule surveillance and incidental findings. This is also an exciting opportunity to be involved in national pilot programmes that are helping to shape the future of lung cancer screening across the UK. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and develop the nursing team across the LCS programme
  • Ensure delivery of safe, effective and high-quality patient care
  • Oversee clinic operations and act as a visible clinical leader
  • Deliver nurse-led clinics, providing specialist respiratory expertise
  • Support service development, audits, training and clinical governance
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and commissioners
  • Contribute to screening review meetings and pathway oversight

What We’re Looking For

  • Registered Nurse (Band 6/7 equivalent) with respiratory experience
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
  • Confident clinical decision-maker with advanced assessment abilities
  • Experience supervising staff and delivering high-quality care
  • Able to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel

Desirable

  • Spirometry / ARTP accreditation
  • IRMER qualification (training can be provided)
  • Smoking cessation training (training can be provided)
  • Leadership and/or teaching qualification

* This includes colleagues delivering face to face patient care in the Lung screening mobile units, Endoscopy, AAA Screening, Breast Screening, PET-CT, Audiology, Mobiles, Imaging Centres and CDC’s. Note that this payment is not applicable to clinical staff working within the Echocardiography division, or Diabetic Eye Screening. The Weekend Payment does not apply to those on a flexible working agreement and part time workers that have requested to work weekend hours/days as part of their working agreement. The Weekend Payment also doesn’t apply to those who are working remotely or carrying out administrative work from home.
