About the role

Nurse Team Leader – Lung Cancer Screening - Devon

Help save lives through early diagnosis. Our Lung Cancer Screening Service (LCSS) supports communities across the UK by identifying lung cancer at an early, more treatable stage. We’re now looking for an experienced respiratory nurse to lead our nursing team.

The Role

As Team Lead Nurse, you will oversee the day‑to‑day delivery of our Lung Cancer Screening Service, ensuring high‑quality, seamless and patient‑centred care. Working closely with the Clinical Lead, Head of Nursing and commissioners, you’ll support the development of our nursing team and ensure our service meets national standards.

You’ll provide clinical expertise, lead nurse‑led clinics, participate in weekly screening review meetings, and support the management of nodule surveillance and incidental findings. This role also offers the chance to contribute to national pilot programmes that will help shape the future of lung cancer screening in the UK.

This is a mobile service covering a wide geographic area, so regular travel to mobile clinics is required. Our nursing teams work 7‑day rotas including bank holidays, with a combination of 12‑hour clinical shifts and flexible office‑based hours.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support the nursing team across the LCS programme
  • Ensure high‑quality, safe and effective patient care
  • Oversee clinic operations and act as a visible clinical leader
  • Deliver nurse‑led clinics and provide respiratory expertise
  • Support service development, audits, training and clinical governance
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and commissioners
  • Contribute to national screening review meetings and pathway oversight

What We’re Looking For

  • Registered Nurse with respiratory experience (Band 6/7 equivalent)
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
  • Confident clinical decision‑maker with advanced assessment skills
  • Experience supervising staff and delivering high‑quality patient care
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel

Desirable

  • Spirometry/ARTP accreditation
  • IRMER qualification (training available)
  • Smoking cessation training (training available)
  • Leadership or teaching qualification

What's in it for you

In addition to this, we also offer:

  • 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)
  • Generous company contribution pension scheme
  • Sick pay for peace of mind, so you can rest and recover without financial worry
  • Private medical insurance options
  • Life assurance
  • Hybrid and flexible working opportunities
  • Fantastic learning and development opportunities
  • 24/7 access to a dedicated well-being hub and Employee Assistance Programme
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Monthly award programme and online peer-to-peer recognition
  • Long service recognition, with vouchers and additional annual leave
  • Refer a friend bonus
  • Discounts on our healthcare services
  • Smart tech, Cycle to Work, and thousands of discounts and cashback options
  • For eligible* roles - an additional payment of £10 per hour, up to £50 per day, for each weekend day worked - paid monthly in arrears
  • Paid-for professional memberships and more!

Supporting our people’s happiness at work is a top priority. That means offering meaningful opportunities for personal and professional growth, with an innovative approach to development that helps you be the best version of yourself and build a real career pathway.

* This includes colleagues delivering face to face patient care in the Lung screening mobile units, Endoscopy, AAA Screening, Breast Screening, PET-CT, Audiology, Mobiles, Imaging Centres and CDC’s. Note that this payment is not applicable to clinical staff working within the Echocardiography division, or Diabetic Eye Screening. The Weekend Payment does not apply to those on a flexible working agreement and part time workers that have requested to work weekend hours/days as part of their working agreement. The Weekend Payment also doesn’t apply to those who are working remotely or carrying out administrative work from home.
