Our Surrey and North East Hampshire Breast Screening Service supports an eligible population of around 186,000 women across a three-year screening round, with a team of over 50 dedicated staff working across our static centre and five mobile screening units.

About the role

This is a varied and rewarding role combining frontline reception duties with radiographic assistant support to our Mammography team.

You’ll be the first point of contact for patients at the Jarvis Breast Centre – welcoming them warmly, supporting registration, and ensuring their visit runs smoothly and professionally. Alongside this, you’ll provide essential behind-the-scenes support to help keep our breast screening service running efficiently and safely.

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering a professional, compassionate reception service for patients and visitors

  • Supporting the Mammography team by downloading and managing imaging from mobile screening units onto PACS

  • Tracking image batches, paperwork and reporting workflows accurately

  • Liaising with other breast screening centres and NHS Trusts to request and transfer images

  • Preparing and checking documentation to support reporting, arbitration and data entry

  • Maintaining records, stock levels and quality documentation in line with QMS protocols

  • Working closely with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to ensure a smooth patient journey

This role involves a mix of desk-based work and some physical handling of film batches and paperwork.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is organised, empathetic and reliable, with a genuine interest in patient care.

You’ll be:

  • A supportive team player who can also work confidently on your own

  • Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail

  • A clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal

  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced healthcare environment

  • Approachable, caring and committed to delivering a positive patient experience

You’ll need

  • GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent)

  • Strong IT skills and confidence using databases and Microsoft packages

  • Experience in an administrative, customer-facing or patient-focused role

  • An understanding of confidentiality, data protection and patient care

  • The ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to service needs at short notice

Experience that will help you succeed

  • Working in a customer service or healthcare environment

  • Supporting multidisciplinary teams

  • Using multiple IT systems accurately

  • Communicating sensitively with patients and the public
