This role will commence in January, ahead of the apprenticeship course starting in February, giving you time to settle into the team and gain valuable experience before your formal training begins.

As part of the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP), we invite women aged 50 to 70 to attend routine mammograms every three years. Our team works from a static unit at The Jarvis Breast Centre in Guildford, as well as five mobile units across Surrey.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As an apprentice, you'll gain the skills and experience needed to carry out mammography exams safely and effectively. You’ll:

  • Undertake 12–18 months of structured training, combining hands-on clinical experience and academic learning

  • Learn under the supervision of experienced mammographers at both the static and mobile units

  • Complete an electronic portfolio aligned with the Mammography Associate Apprenticeship standards

  • Be supported by a dedicated mentor and training provider throughout your journey

  • Work towards a Level 4 qualification in Mammography

  • Complete an end-point assessment, including a multiple-choice exam and practical observation

What You'll Be Trained to Do:

Once trained and qualified, you will:

  • Perform routine mammograms to NHSBSP standards with confidence, professionalism, and compassion

  • Support individuals attending screening by providing reassurance and care during sensitive procedures

  • Operate specialist mammography equipment and ensure consistent, high-quality imaging

  • Carry out Quality Assurance (QA) tests and maintain clinical and equipment records

  • Answer general queries about breast screening and assist in health promotion activities

  • Support clinics by chaperoning, preparing equipment, assisting with biopsies, and maintaining clinical areas

  • Transport confidential materials and equipment between sites as required

  • Comply with all relevant safety regulations, policies, and procedures

What We’re Looking For:

We’d love to hear from you if you are:

  • Professional, empathetic, and respectful in all interactions

  • A team player who is dependable, approachable, and proactive

  • Calm under pressure, with a positive attitude in challenging situations

  • Comfortable working closely with patients in a clinical setting

  • Motivated to learn, develop, and make a real impact on people’s lives

Your Experience Should Include:

  • Working in a customer-facing role

  • Using Microsoft Office and other IT systems

  • Working effectively in a team, as well as independently
