Are you looking to kick-start a rewarding career in healthcare? Would you like to be part of a service that makes a real difference in early cancer detection? We have a fantastic opportunity to join our dedicated breast screening team as a Mammography Associate Practitioner Apprentice.
This role will commence in January, ahead of the apprenticeship course starting in February, giving you time to settle into the team and gain valuable experience before your formal training begins.
As part of the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP), we invite women aged 50 to 70 to attend routine mammograms every three years. Our team works from a static unit at The Jarvis Breast Centre in Guildford, as well as five mobile units across Surrey.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As an apprentice, you'll gain the skills and experience needed to carry out mammography exams safely and effectively. You’ll:

Undertake 12–18 months of structured training, combining hands-on clinical experience and academic learning

Learn under the supervision of experienced mammographers at both the static and mobile units

Complete an electronic portfolio aligned with the Mammography Associate Apprenticeship standards

Be supported by a dedicated mentor and training provider throughout your journey

Work towards a Level 4 qualification in Mammography

Complete an end-point assessment, including a multiple-choice exam and practical observation
What You'll Be Trained to Do:
Once trained and qualified, you will:

Perform routine mammograms to NHSBSP standards with confidence, professionalism, and compassion

Support individuals attending screening by providing reassurance and care during sensitive procedures

Operate specialist mammography equipment and ensure consistent, high-quality imaging
-
Carry out Quality Assurance (QA) tests and maintain clinical and equipment records
-
Answer general queries about breast screening and assist in health promotion activities

Support clinics by chaperoning, preparing equipment, assisting with biopsies, and maintaining clinical areas
-
Transport confidential materials and equipment between sites as required

Comply with all relevant safety regulations, policies, and procedures
