We manage 19 Diabetic Eye Screening Programmes (DESPs) across England, offering essential retinal screening services to around 2 million patients. We are now seeking an experienced Programme Manager to lead the operational delivery of one of our DESPs, ensuring safe, high-quality, and patient-centred care that meets all national screening standards.
This role will support and manage our programme in Leeds and Mid Yorkshire. The closing date for applications is Friday 7th November.
What You Will Do
As the Programme Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations and continuous improvement of the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme, leading a multidisciplinary team to deliver excellence in screening and grading services.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the operational delivery of the programme to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centred service provision.
- Overseeing the screening and grading teams, ensuring compliance with training, education, and quality standards.
- Ensuring the accuracy and maintenance of the Single Collated List and managing the call/recall, failsafe, and administration functions.
- Leading on internal quality assurance, monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), and ensuring all contractual and quality standards are met.
- Collaborating with Commissioners, Public Health teams, GPs, and Hospital Eye Services to ensure seamless care pathways and strong stakeholder engagement.
- Leading operational change and service improvement to meet the diverse needs of patients and local communities.
- Managing staff performance and development, including appraisals, sickness management, and training compliance.
- Supporting the Clinical Assessment Team and ensuring effective communication and feedback loops across all operational areas.
- Responding to patient and customer queries, complaints, and incidents in a professional and timely manner.
- Maintaining effective business continuity planning and ensuring compliance with all InHealth corporate policies and national DESP requirements.
About You
You’re an experienced and motivated healthcare professional with a strong background in public health screening programmes and team leadership. You bring both operational expertise and a passion for improving patient outcomes.
You will also have:
- A management certificate or equivalent experience in leading teams and operations.
- Ideally, an accreditation in Diabetic Retinopathy Screening or Health Screening Diploma (desirable).
- Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Experience in staff management, quality assurance, and service improvement within healthcare settings.
- A sound understanding of DESP and Public Health England policies, as well as NICE, NSF, and NSC guidelines.
- A proactive, supportive, and confident leadership style, with the ability to motivate teams and challenge the status quo constructively.
