36 Hours per Week (Preferred Across 4 Days) | Flexible Working Considered
Mobile Role | Full UK Driving Licence Required

Join our Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) team and play a pivotal role in the delivery of a high-quality service focused on the early detection of lung cancer and improved patient outcomes.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Respiratory Nurse to support the Nurse Team Leader in the operational management of our expanding Lung Cancer Screening Programme. This is a fantastic opportunity for a nurse who enjoys leadership, people management and service development, while maintaining a small amount of clinical practice.

Although there will be opportunities to undertake nurse-led screening clinics, this role is primarily focused on team leadership, operational support, administration and service coordination, with clinical clinics anticipated to be approximately one day every two weeks.

Working across our mobile screening service, you will help ensure the programme runs efficiently, support the development of colleagues and contribute to one of the UK's most important public health initiatives.

What You'll Do

  • Act as Deputy to the Nurse Team Leader, supporting the day-to-day management and delivery of the Lung Cancer Screening Programme.
  • Provide line management, supervision, support and mentorship to nurses and healthcare support staff.
  • Coordinate clinical operations, workforce planning, clinic capacity and service performance to ensure programme objectives are achieved.
  • Lead on clinical administration, audits, reporting, governance activities and service improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain clinical competence through occasional delivery of virtual and face-to-face Lung Cancer Screening clinics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Nurse Team Leader with operational oversight, workforce management and clinical governance activities.
  • Monitor quality standards, compliance requirements and screening pathway performance.
  • Contribute to policy development, audit programmes, patient experience initiatives and continuous service improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure an effective and safe screening pathway.
  • Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns, clinical risks and operational issues appropriately.

Who You Are

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years' Band 5 respiratory nursing experience.
  • Previous experience supporting, supervising or mentoring clinical teams.
  • Strong organisational, leadership and administrative skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills, with a proactive and collaborative approach.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across screening locations as required.

Desirable

  • Leadership, mentorship or management qualification.
  • Experience of line management or workforce coordination.
  • IR(ME)R and/or ARTP accreditation.
  • Smoking cessation qualification or training.
  • Experience participating in audits, quality improvement projects or service development initiatives.

Why Join Us?

  • Opportunity to take the next step into a leadership position within a growing national screening programme.
  • Flexible working arrangements, with a preference for 36 hours across 4 days.
  • A varied role combining leadership, operational management and occasional clinical practice.
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • The chance to make a real impact on patient outcomes through early detection and prevention.
